Bolivia: Textile & Weaving Tour

Named after himself by the great liberator, Simon Bolivar, Bolivia is dominated by the Andes despite its vast tracts of jungle lowland. The majority of its peoples are native Indian and eek out an existence, concentrated in the harsh but beautiful environment in the high altiplano where life retains great spiritual significance in this land of mixed traditional Pachamama, Mother Earth, and Christian beliefs. The country's rich and age-old textile tradition is the main focus of our tour and we explore the diverse range of quality designs and colourful fabrics of the native Aymara people, and consider the arrival and appetite for silver of the conquering Spanish. Travellers will appreciate the great character of its inhabitants and the sheer raw beauty that are within the gift of Bolivia for those fortunate enough to explore the weaving tradition so close to its soul.
