A contemporary, "Fabric Table Radiolaria" by Il Hoon Roh in fibre glass reinforced plastic with toughened glass top. Signed and numbered 2/25 by artist. This table is also available in Black.
These tables, the only two in existence apart from the artist`s proof, are of a planned edition of 25. The table utilises the same structural principles as those found in nature, including spider webs, beehives and cells. These principles have been tried and tested through the evolutionary process resulting in a design that is lightweight, structurally optimised and extremely efficient. To generate these forms, the designer first built moulds which were used to stretch fabric into three dimensional shapes which were then made into furniture. The parameters of the resulting shapes were not set by the designer; rather, he allowed tensile forces to determine the final shapes replicating the process found in nature. Il Hoon Roh received his AA diploma from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. He worked at Foster and partners and later at Llewelyn Davies Yeang before resuming his studies in design at the Royal College of Art, London where he received a Design Product Masters degree in 2007.
