On the west bank of Luxor, the necropolis of ancient Thebes, magnificent temples such as the Temple of Seti, the Valley of the Kings, (the location of the tomb of King Tuttenkhamun, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 continues to attract millions of visitors from all over the world and is of course highly recommended)Deir al-Bahri (Queen Hatshepsut's Mortuary temple), Ramesseum, Tombs of the Nobles, The small Ptolemaic temple of Deir al-Medina, the Valley of the Queens dating back to the 19th and 20th dynasties, the temple complex of Medinat Habu and the 18 metre high Colossi of Memnon. Luxor offers all the resort facilities that visitors demand. There is a wide variety of restaurants and cafes for those on either a limited or more generous budget and there is an extensive shopping area and market for bargain hunters. Gold and silver jewellery, leather goods, woodwork, basketry, copperware and brassware, alabaster, ceramics and of course papyrus and Egyptian cotton (considered the best in the world).
