A recent addition to our long list of tour destinations, China is sure to become one of our most popular. Surprisingly inexpensive and packed with some of the greatest sites on earth, such as the Great Wall and the Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an, China also boasts fantastic modern concert halls. Western music is very popular and concerts are well attended.

Beijing

The capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing, is a modern metropolis, internationally respected for its rich historical background and cultural development. MTV and mobile phone have fast eclipsed Mao as it rapidly progresses. It has a huge selection of historical sites and is surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. Must-see attractions include the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, the Great Wall and the Summer Palace.

Xi'an

Xi'an was China's capital city for eleven dynasties and in the seventh and eighth centuries, the largest city in the world. It was the first to open itself up to the ancient world as the first stop on the legendary Silk Road trade route to Europe. This has left the city with an incredible legacy including the magnificent Qin Terracotta Warriors, the Wild Goose Pagoda and the Hauqing Hot Springs. Xi'an is now modern and prosperous and has a large student population, who contribute widely to the city's cultural life.

Shanghai

Situated on the Yangtze estuary, Shanghai is China's largest city and the centre of its industrial and business activities. It is a lively city with a rich heritage of ancient Chinese culture, merging with modern architecture and skyscrapers. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the modern Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the tallest in Asia, the Bund, Jade Buddha Temple and the scenic Yuyuan Gardens.
