Description

As you approach the white cliffs of Dover and alight to the hubbub of London you know you're in for the adventure of a lifetime on an England tour. Boasting a long and fascinating history, charming countryside and quaint villages, England has it all, as well as cosmopolitan London in the jewel of its stunning crown.

History fans will certainly be kept busy in London; every antiquated street corner in England's capital tells a captivating story, especially with such magnificent mansions as Buckingham Palace, or spine-chilling fortresses as the Tower of London to explore. From the Tate Modern art gallery to the Royal Opera House, culture connoisseurs can enjoy some of the most acclaimed museums, art galleries and performance venues in the world.

If you prefer shopping, you'll relish in the sparkling, designer-label lavished Oxford Street, Regent Street, Saville Row and Bond Street, all home to some of the most exclusive and cutting-edge fashions the world has to offer. With department stores like Harrods and Selfridges too, London is definitely the capital of infamous British style.

With so much to see it's a wonder anyone makes it out of London, but travel through the sumptuous Cotswolds or Chiltern hills and you'll be greeted with the picture-book pretty cities of Cambridge, Oxford and Shakespeare's hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. Smaller towns and cities in the midlands such as Bladon or Coventry also have much to see, including attractive cathedrals and unique pubs and shops.

Delve deeper into the southern English countryside and the spectacular pagan monoliths of Stonehenge are sure to impress. There's also a wealth of ancient cities such as nearby Glastonbury where King Arthur is buried, the Roman settlement of Bath and picturesque Salisbury with its world famous cathedral. Travel further along the south coast to enjoy pleasant Bideford and Clovelly in Devon, or delight in Tintagel and Boscastle in Cornwall for a real glimpse of rural England. The larger coastal city of Portsmouth offers plenty of history, as the Mayflower steps from which the Pilgrim Fathers set sail to America can be found here.

The north of England offers just as much to explore as the south. Chester, Leeds, York and Durham are all important cities with a wealth of rich history which is evident in the various cathedrals, city walls and architecture. The real beauty of the north lies in the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire dales, national parks and Lake District though. Be sure to take a leisurely walk along part of the 73 mile long Hadrian's Wall which skims the Scottish border in Northumberland National Park, as you reflect over your unforgettable time in this small but stunning nation.
